Are you looking for ways to engage your students around the topic of diversity in your classroom? Multimedia stories are relevant and thought-provoking tools for students today. The resources shared in this session—short documentary films, photography, and companion curriculum—will empower your students to engage with the themes of social justice and diversity in meaningful ways. How can we inspire students to consider their relationships to their communities, themselves, and the world while reflecting on specific stories that document global issues such as migration, cultural displacement, and human rights? This question will be explored and strategies will be provided to integrate these resources into your classroom.
This presentation is for educators who are looking to participate in an interactive dialogue about digital media and what it offers to gain a deeper understanding of specific social issues that are adversely impacting our immigrant communities. During this session, educators will be offered ways in which they can challenge their students to think critically towards civil engagement to create meaningful social change at this time in history.
