Dr. Christy Isbell
Dr. Christy Isbell is a pediatric occupational therapist with more than twenty years of experience working with young children. She is professor of occupational therapy at Milligan College in Tennessee where she teaches graduate level child development courses and pediatric occupational therapy courses. Dr. Isbell maintains a private practice, and her specialty is the treatment of young children. She has authored five books for Gryphon House and published several articles on early childhood topics. She has presented internationally and nationally on topics related to sensory integration, autism spectrum disorders, fine motor development, and the design and implementation of inclusive early childhood environments. Dr. Isbell’s books were written to educate early childhood teachers and parents and include the award-winning Sensory Integration: A guide for preschool teachers.

Do you know how to work with young children who have sensory processing disorder (SPD)? At least 1 in 20 young children has a sensory processing disorder. The number is even greater in children with autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities. Learn about the brain process, sensory integration, how it affects young children’s learning, and their behaviors. Red flags for the identification of children who have sensory processing disorder and are “sensory seekers” or “sensory avoiders” will be discussed.

Viewers will gain simple, easy-to-use solutions to address the sensory needs of young children, preschool through 2nd grade. Many of these ideas will positively impact the learning environment for all children, not just those who have sensory processing problems.
