Description

Sensory differences have been recognised in Autistic people for over a century now, yet they only became a part of formal diagnostic criteria a few years ago. This has been disastrous because our senses and associated emotions are central to the Autistic lived experience.

Gain an appreciation for the ways Autistic people experience this world, find meaning, and how that directs their actions each moment. You will finish by offering thoughts on making Autistic sensory experiences less overwhelming, the world kinder, and shaping a future where we all can thrive.

• What are senses and ‘sensory processing’?
• Autistic sensory sensitivity
• How senses and emotions connect
• Trauma and the nervous system
• Overload: the sensory-emotional jug
• What helps Autistic people reach a happier, healthier future

This Autism and Sensory Processing course is delivered by AUsome Training founder Evaleen and their Subject Matter Expert MAQQI, creator of the Convergent-Divergent Feedback (CDF) Model of Autistic Living which has transformed how we understand Autistic sensory experience.

You may have noticed that AUsome Training did not include the word “disorder” after processing. Autistic people are more environmentally sensitive, not disordered!

On this course AUsome Training guides you in an exploration of the Autistic sensory experience. You will look at how Autistic people feel and experience the world. You will look at how a hostile environment can impact Autistic people negatively and suggest ways that they can adapt the environment to support autistic children and adults to thrive.

Autistic people's environment includes the physical world but it also includes their social world, a much overlooked but crucial aspect of their environmental experiences across the full span of their lives. You will delve into the ways this impacts Autistic people's emotional well-being

You will be introduced to the close connection between Autistic people's sensory experiences and emotional states, and how this shapes how they've come to understand themselves, the world, and their relationship with it. MAQQI explains how Autistic people learn through their senses and how environmental forces impact their emotions and their abilities to process sensory-emotional information and create those ‘behaviours’ we hear so much about.

Once you complete this on-demand course you will receive a certificate of completion. Please ensure you enter your name correctly as the name you enter will appear on your certificate. If using this course for a group training please enter the name of the organisation as only one certificate will be provided. If you require additional certificates please email AUSome Training and they will provide them to you. Individual certificates incur an administrative fee of 5 EUR per certificate.
