Working With Passion, Beyond the Workload
Many education professionals experience work pressure. Many studies also show that the profession of 'teacher' is one of the most stressful professions. Much is written about work pressure and peak loads in education. The most important question that many teachers ask themselves: 'What can I do to reduce the experienced work pressure/stress?'
When people talk about work pressure, it is important to make a distinction between 'being busy' and 'experiencing stress'. Being busy is not the same as having stress. When you are busy, you can still learn and develop and do your job with passion. This is different when experiencing stress. Brain research shows: stress and learning cannot possibly go together. But what exactly is stress? When is this experienced? What happens to someone and how does this influence their interaction with the environment?
In order to reduce stress, it is important that a teacher becomes more aware of his own internal dynamics. What happens during the work as a teacher when it gets busier or more difficult? What does he feel, think and decide then?
When a teacher learns to look at his own behavior and that of his team from a distance, steps can be taken to reduce an experienced feeling of work pressure. In the training, this self-knowledge and the actions from this are central. This is done using examples from (own) educational practice.
