Today's youth are playing, communicating and learning more and more with new media. This brings fun moments, but children and youth will also have unpleasant experiences. Think of shocking images, being harassed by strangers and online bullying.
What are children and young people doing on the Internet and social media? How do we prevent them from encountering unpleasant experiences? How can we guide them when they do experience something unpleasant? What can we do at school to educate students? If these questions seem familiar to you, the training Social Safety on the Internet is for you!
Learning Objectives
The Social Safety on the Internet training aims to give teachers practical tips and lesson ideas for discussing unsafe online situations with children and adolescents.
Upon completion of the training:
You will know which unpleasant online experiences are most common among children and adolescents;
You will have practiced assignments on online sexual abuse, privacy and bullying;
You will be able to use practical assignments to work with students on preventing, and dealing with, unpleasant online experiences.
Content Training Social Safety on the Internet
The training starts with an introduction to (the trends in) the online behavior of children/youth and explanation of the popular social media among this group. Next, the most common unpleasant experiences on the Internet are covered:
Shocking content;
Online bullying;
Harassment;
Misuse of data.
The training uses practical offline and online assignments to practice engaging with students in class on topics such as privacy, sexting and online bullying. This includes both preventing these experiences and dealing with them.
Target
This training is aimed at primary and secondary school teachers. No entry level is applicable.
The content of the training will be tailored to the respective sector.
Duration & Cost
The Social Internet Safety training takes one half-day session. The training will be provided at your school for €850.
The maximum number of participants is 15 people.
