Why an Outdoor Class?

In addition to the reasons mentioned above, there are many more reasons why more outdoor lessons could be given. Nature is important for the physical, emotional and cognitive development of children. By teaching outside, you bring nature closer to children. An outdoor lesson increases your cognitive capacity. Outside, everything is 'real', a realistic and meaningful context. In this way, they work on their personal development such as motor skills, locating, designing and building. There is also more interaction between children. It motivates children to actively participate in a lesson.

In addition to ideas and explanations, the workshop also looked at obstacles and how to solve them. The teachers were also given practical tools that they can use. Workshop leader Lidewij Disbergen: “If you have never done it before, giving an outdoor lesson is quite a challenge. It takes some getting used to for everyone, including the teacher. Ultimately, the satisfaction is great. Children and teachers often really enjoy an outdoor lesson and, by moving, it is easier for many children to retain the learning material. That is very motivating".
