Welcome to the Online Play-Based Learning Course for Basic School Teachers.

This online course is designed to equip you with a clear understanding of Play-Based Learning (PBL) and the Standards-Based Curriculum (SBC). It has two modules made up of five units each. In Module 1, you will learn about Play-Based Learning and its benefit to holistic child development and learning, the types of PBL, the characteristics of PBL, and your role in using PBL as an educator.

In Module 2, you will also learn about the Standards-Based Curriculum, the objective and rational of the curriculum, pedagogical approaches prescribed by the SBC, making and using teaching and learning resources (TLRs), forms of assessment in the SBC, and play-based lesson planning and delivery.

In addition to these, you will have access to reference materials like sample play-based lesson plans, handouts on making some TLRs etc. These are provided so that you can read more and feel confident in integrating the Play-Based Learning approach into the implementation of the SBC.

Is this course for me?
This course is designed for all teachers at the primary school level, particularly Basic 1-6 teachers.

How will I benefit from this course?
On completion of this course, you will:
• apply knowledge of Play-Based Learning to your lesson planning, to maximize opportunities for improved learning outcomes across the SBC subjects
• deliver the SBC using learner-centred, play-based learning
• create a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment that respects the rights of all learners and responds to the varying learning needs of all children, including children with disabilities
• make and use appropriate TLRs to support learners' learning in school
• use appropriate techniques to assess learner's learning

Will I get a certificate at the end?
Yes - you will be able to download a certificate once you have completed all of the modules within the course. You will also receive a certificate and CPD point from the National Teaching Council upon completion of the course.
