Christmas Math Activities Inside:

Color + black & white version of all activities!

1. Rounding to the Nearest Ten and Hundred
Students round each number to the nearest ten or nearest hundred. They’ll sort the cards under the correct category (36 task cards each).

2. Place Value Word Problems
Students will solve each place value word problem. Includes a multiple choice and open-ended set (24 task cards each).

3. Number Representation Puzzles
Students will match each number with two puzzle pieces that show the number represented in different ways. Includes a standard set with numbers written in word, expanded, and place value blocks. The second set includes numbers regrouped and represented in different forms (24 task cards each).
Example: 345 is equal to 3 hundreds and 45 ones.

4. Addition & Subtraction Word Problem Game Board
Students will solve addition and subtraction with regrouping Christmas word problems to navigate around the game board. This game is perfect for small groups! Students can flip cards over to self-check their answers. Includes multiple choice and open-ended set (24 task cards each).

5. Picture Equations With Unknown Numbers
Students will find the value of each picture (unknown number) by solving each equation. Includes a standard set and a challenge set that is perfect for high-achieving/gifted students (24 task cards each).

6. True/False Subtraction With Regrouping Equations
Students will solve each subtraction equation and decide if the difference shown is correct or incorrect. Students will sort the cards under the correct ‘true’ or ‘false’ headers (24 task cards).

7. Comparing Numbers and Equations
Students will use the greater than, less than, or equal to symbols to compare the numbers/equations (<,>,=)(24 task cards).

8. Counting Coins
Students will find the value of each coin set and match it with the correct amount (24 task cards).

9. Adding Money and Finding Change
Students will use the Christmas Sweet Shop menu to calculate order totals on each receipt. Then, students will calculate the change for each customer by subtracting. Real-word problem solving! (24 task cards).

10. Identifying Shape Attributes + Graphing
Students will count how many of each 2D shape are on each task card and record the numbers on the table. Then, students will use all of their shape data to create a picture graph or bar graph (24 task cards).

Direction sheets, task card box covers, response sheets, B&W versions, and answer keys are included for all activities!

Standards Targeted:

CCSS2.MD.C.8
Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately.
Example: If you have 2 dimes and 3 pennies, how many cents do you have?

CCSS2.MD.D.10
Draw a picture graph and a bar graph (with single-unit scale) to represent a data set with up to four categories. Solve simple put-together, take-apart, and compare problems using information presented in a bar graph.

CCSS2.NBT.A.1a
Understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones; e.g., 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones.

CCSS2.NBT.A.1a
100 can be thought of as a bundle of ten tens - called a “hundred.”

CCSS2.NBT.A.1b
The numbers 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900 refer to one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine hundreds (and 0 tens and 0 ones).

CCSS2.NBT.A.3
Read and write numbers to 1000 using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form.

CCSS2.NBT.A.4
Compare two three-digit numbers based on meanings of the hundreds, tens, and ones digits, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.

CCSS2.NBT.B.5
Fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.

CCSS2.OA.A.1
Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.

CCSS2.OA.B.2
Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.

CCSS2.G.A.1
Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
