Description
This beginner-level woodworking project teaches students in grades 1-6 how to create wooden stamps using branches, dowels, or scrap wood along with simple tools such as a saw, hammer, sandpaper, and nails. Students cut and sand the wood into stamp shapes, secure the pieces with clamps or a vise, and experiment with creating textured patterns by hammering objects into the wood surface to form impressions. After smoothing the finished surface, the stamps are tested with water-based paint on paper. The activity encourages creativity, experimentation with textures and depth, and can be extended into textile or paper art projects such as card-making, clay texturing, fabric decoration, or more advanced carved stamp designs inspired by historical block printing techniques.
