Description

“Where’s the Air?” is a lesson about air and how air takes up space. Students explore what air is and how they can tell that air exists even though it is invisible, odorless, and tasteless. Through discussion and a hands-on experiment with a glass, water, and crumpled paper, students observe that air inside the upside-down glass prevents water from entering and keeps the paper dry. The lesson helps students understand that air is all around us, is constantly moving, and is necessary for life. Students practice making observations, making comparisons, documenting findings, and communicating findings while learning that air takes up space even though it cannot be seen.
