Description

Teacher in Role is a technique in which the teacher takes on a role related to a story or theme and participates directly in a dramatic situation to shape the dramatic process and support students’ learning. The lesson plan is based on a lively and funny folk tale from Orissa, India, that explains why tigers eat uncooked food and why cats live with people, and includes practical drama activities for Reception and Key Stage 1 children aged 4–7. Activities include ten second objects, soundscape, freeze frames, thought tracking, teacher in role, and whoosh storytelling. Teacher in Role allows the teacher to influence the drama from within, present challenging points of view, stimulate discussion and action, and support children’s participation in make-believe play.
