Elementary school Lesson Idea | Traffic Lights

Ages: 6-9 years
People: 3 or more
Duration: under 15 minutes

In this activity, learners will practice expressing an evaluation and share their reasons with their peers. This improves the ability to listen to others’ experiences in order to improve collaboration.

Materials

Tablespoon
A set of red, amber and green objects. You can use Six Bricks, or something else such as colored cups, or bits of paper.

This activity is done after a collaborative task. It has been developed for the classroom but it can easily be used in other settings as well.

Instructions

Step 1
This activity is done after a collaborative task. After the task is finished let learner think about the task and pick one of the colored objects to represent how they found the task.

Step 2
This now sets up a good reflective conversation. Before probing individuals, the teacher can ask all those who chose red, yellow and green respectively to stand in different corners and then share why they chose that color.

Step 3
Once the team has heard everyone, share ideas on how you might do the collaborative task differently given the feedback from all the team members.
