‘Sustainable Energy Barge’ is a Grade 4 (Upper Primary, ages 8–11) Natural Sciences / Design Thinking lesson in which students use the Sustainability Compass tool to think about the sustainability of importing to Germany by shipping, come up with alternative ideas of energy production to move items across the water, work in the makerspace to build a model of their ideas, and draw a mental model tracing the forms of energy through their system; it is for Grade 4 students (Upper Primary, ages 8–11) and its purposes include Inquiry and Critical Thinking, with learning objectives to use the Design Cycle and to use mental models to show energy transfer.
