Lesson Idea | Social Awareness – Working & Playing With Others
Going to school can be exciting for young children. They get to learn new things and make new friends. Teachers work so hard during the first weeks of school to create a positive classroom climate that is peaceful, comfortable, safe, and fun for everyone. Building a strong foundation from the first day is vital and requires some very specific, clear instruction. Young learners need to see these social skills acted out in very concrete ways.
The Puppet Kids are learning how to work and play well with others in their classroom and on the playground. Each day they learn a different skill that specifically teaches them how to listen and be kind, respectful, and responsible at school. As you watch these videos with your students, it will act as a springboard for class discussions about what that may look like in your own classroom.
This week of lessons includes four scenario videos that you can watch with your students Monday through Thursday with follow-up questions for class discussions. The bonus video for Friday is Grannie’s Games. Students can follow along with Grannie with this fun brain break that practices listening and following directions.
Each week also includes a Simple Summary video in both English and Spanish. These are geared toward PreK students or those who are developing simple language skills while focusing on the target social-emotional skill of the week.
