Elementary school Lesson Idea | Relationship Skills – Problem Solving With Friends

No one likes dealing with conflict, but even the best of friends have disagreements sometimes. As uncomfortable as it can be, addressing conflict and the accompanying emotions is important in maintaining healthy relationships.

Teaching kids practical conflict resolution strategies now, when they are young, will give them a strong foundation for solving problems with others in responsible and caring ways that will be applicable even into their adulthood.

This week the Puppet Pals face a variety of problems with their friends. They learn four steps that will help them move from conflict to resolution.

- Get calm
- Say how they feel
- Come up with ideas to solve the problem
- Pick one that both feel good about.

The next time your children are embroiled in a disagreement, they can try using this four-step process to help work through their own situation, moving from dispute to solution.

This week of lessons includes four scenario videos that you can watch with your students Monday through Thursday with follow-up questions for class discussions. Kids can join Peter Leader on Friday as the puppet contestants try to solve problems on the game show What Would A Leader Do?

This week also includes a Simple Summary video in both English and Spanish. These are geared toward PreK students or those who are developing simple language skills while focusing on the target social-emotional skill of the week.
