Description

A kaleidoscope creates colorful patterns by using mirrors to reflect light, colors, and shapes repeatedly. In the activity, participants build a kaleidoscope using beads, a mirror board, a cardboard tube, an ornament ball, and tape. They learn how reflection creates symmetrical patterns and how visible light ranges from about 400 nm (blue) to 700 nm (red). The lesson also introduces ultraviolet light, mandalas, and careers related to light, including astronomy and optics.
