Description
The activity demonstrates static electricity by having students rub a paper wrapper against a plastic straw and then place the straw on a clean, dry surface. Rubbing the materials causes charged particles to move, leaving the straw negatively charged. When the charged straw is brought near a neutral object, it causes a local positive charge, allowing the straw to stick because opposite charges attract. Students can then experiment with other objects and materials to explore static electricity further.
