Description

This lesson uses dominoes to help students practice addition and sorting in a simple and engaging way. Students begin by exploring dominoes and then are asked to find the “middle” domino. To do this, they sort all the dominoes from least to greatest based on the total number of dots on each one. As they work, students group dominoes with the same total and compare their ideas with others. The activity encourages students to explain their thinking and consider different answers, since more than one domino could be seen as the “middle.” Students can work in small groups to sort and organize the dominoes, then share and discuss their results with the class. The teacher supports learning by guiding discussion and helping students reflect on their choices. Overall, the lesson builds understanding of addition and classification while encouraging clear thinking and discussion.
