Description

This lesson engages Grade 1 students in designing and building a floating boat through hands-on exploration, trial and error, and revision. Working in small groups, students select materials, construct a boat, test whether it floats, and improve their design based on results. Along the way, they apply their understanding of solids and floating/sinking, use diagrams to learn about boat parts, and practice collaboration and communication skills. The lesson integrates science, literacy, and social studies, culminating in student presentations where they explain their design process and reflect on how boats are created.
