Best For
This lesson uses the imaginary Conservation Island to help students understand endangered and extinct animals and create their own conservation plans to save three endangered species. Working in groups, students learn about each species’ needs, threats, and habitats, then decide which areas of land to protect while considering human needs. They explore real-world issues such as rainforest destruction, climate change, hunting, and deforestation, and present their strategies to the class. Designed for grades 4–7, the lesson aligns with life science standards on ecosystems, survival, and extinction.
