Lesson Idea | Believe in Yourself
We want our kids to be self-confident and trusting in their own capabilities. When children are working to attain a new skill, it helps to focus on their effort instead of mastery. This helps them to understand that making mistakes is a part of that learning process. There are strategies we can use to help them build that self-esteem as they try hard things without giving up, even if they don’t experience immediate success.
This week the Puppet Kids learn to believe in themselves by:
- Trying something new
- Telling an “I CAN” story
- Focusing on effort and learning from mistakes
- Seeing how they have improved
As your children watch the videos they can relate to the Puppet Kids as they try to reframe challenging situations in a way that builds their confidence. They can then apply some of the same principles in their own lives when faced with a challenge.
This week of lessons includes four scenario videos that you can watch with your students Monday through Thursday, with follow-up questions for class discussions. Kids join Coach Carl on Friday with some fun exercises and help the Puppet Pals believe in themselves as they try something new.
This week also includes a Simple Summary video in Spanish to help those who are developing simple language skills, while focusing on the target social-emotional skill of the week.
