Lesson Idea | Adventures in Toyland
In this creative writing lesson, elementary students (grades K-5) watch a short clip from Toy Story and compare it to Richard Patterson’s painting If. Inspired by the film’s adventures, they brainstorm ideas about how Patterson’s toy might have become hidden under layers of paint, then turn their ideas into a short story. In one 55-minute lesson, students practice making connections between film and visual art, generating imaginative scenarios, and writing a creative narrative.
