Game | Surface Measures

Movement game Surface Measures is a game in which students in grades 7 and 8 practice with the metric system, specifically with converting length measures and calculating surface area. The cooperative work form Mix & Pair is central to this game.

The players receive a card with a surface area measure in m2 or a picture with length measures on it. They look for a player with “as much,” 700 cm x 700 cm(275.59 × 275.59 inches) and 49 m2(75.95 inches).

This game contains 50 different cards. Players must sometimes convert the lengths on their cards to meters, in order to calculate the area in m2.

This game is preferably played on the (school) square, so that there is enough space for the players to move around. If you want to add extra movement, then set up (possibly together with the players) a movement trail through which players must first pass before they can look for their surface measure.
