Elementary school Game | Jump the Word (Special) Heel Word

Not available

Movement game Jump the word is a game in which grade 3 students practice chopping/spelling and (buzzing) reading words. In this game they read words with the letters offered in core start to core 2 (also available in versions with the other cores). This game consists of 50 word cards, the back of which is also printed, so 100 (!) words in this game.

In this game, students work in threesomes. They receive (depending on the number of players) a pile with word cards on it. Each trio places 3 hoops in a row and draws a cross on the ground both in front of and behind the row with sidewalk chalk. On both crosses 1 player stands, the third player starts on one side. This player reads a word card, and “chops/spells” this word while jumping through the hoops. They then read the word to the player standing on the cross at the end of the row. If the word is read correctly, the card goes to the bottom of the pile and the next player reads the next word. They alternate in this way until all the cards have been read. Then they turn the pile over and the words at the back come next.

You play this game preferably on the (school) square, or in the gymnasium so that there is enough room for the players to move around. This game is also available in the version core start to core 2, core 3 & 4 and core 5 & 6. If you want to practice making words with students, then Movement game 'Letter tag' might be something for your group.
