Andrew is a full-time SENDco in a large secondary school with 27 years of teaching experience and 17 years as a SENco in a wide range of schools. Andrew is also a qualified Therapist specializing in Child Mental Health and Trauma. He is identified as a specialist Leader in Education for the Borough of Poole, with a focus on SEND and Mental Health, and provides focused training to teachers on these areas within his role, as well as for Dragonfly. Andrew started his career as an English and Drama Teacher and has a Master's degree in Effective School Leadership, Managing Whole School Behaviour, and Whole School Inclusion.
His degree is in English Literature, with a Master's degree in Effective School Leadership, Managing Whole School Behaviour, and Whole School Inclusion. Andrew also holds accredited status for Mental Health First Aid and is in the process of publishing a whole School audit – designed to evaluate mental health and wellbeing provision in schools and colleges.
Description
This highly informative course is delivered in 5 episodes, each lasting between 20 and 30 minutes. It contains a detailed appraisal of best practice when supporting students with ADHD in mainstream educational settings, with a clearly explained and highly practical skills-based approach. It is appropriate for staff who work with pupils of all ages and in all types of school, and is equally beneficial to staff who work in student support as well as to classroom teachers.
Expect an honest appraisal of the strategies and techniques that are effective in helping students that are either diagnosed with ADHD, or have significant traits of inattention and/or high impulsivity when at school (and indeed also when at home).
The course is fully practical, designed to equip staff with a range of effective interventions to use with students when either teaching a whole class, or supporting 1-2-1.

• Identifying ADHD and screening for ADHD.
• Understanding and using the re-framing technique.
• Best practice classroom support for ADHD presentation.
• De-escalating conflict with highly impulsive students.
