Course Objective/Goals

This video-based course focuses on routines, procedures and practices that are sure to enhance not only that critical first day of school, but will help set the tone for a productive, learning-filled school year. The course includes examples of classroom-based strategies, as well as interviews of practicing classroom teachers. Getting the school year off to a good start is foundational to effective classroom management. Beginning teachers as well as experienced educators will find ideas and strategies they can use with their own primary students.

The purpose of this course is to demonstrate practical strategies and techniques for creating a well-managed, primary classroom learning environment, starting on the first day of school. Teachers demonstrate positive, productive ways to establish a solid management foundation and strategies ideally suited to the opening weeks of school to promote cooperation and minimize misbehavior.

You will learn how to:
• Launch a success-filled first day of school
• Establish routines and procedures
• Employ simple techniques for smooth transitions
• Increase respectful, responsible student behavior
