Description
Are you looking for an indepth sensory processing training course to help you understand sensory processing differences, behaviour and put in place sensory regulating strategies? Are you looking for a course delivered by an expert with recognised qualifications in sensory integration? Then this three day online course is for you.
Some people don’t behave as we expect them to – not because they won’t, but because they can’t. Sensory processing differences may cause this unexpected behaviour. These individuals may withdraw from physical contact, refuse to participate in typical classroom and playground activities, be unable to sit still in class, or respond in an unusual way to ordinary sensations such as touch, movement, smells, and sounds.
Some of these people may have a medical diagnosis such as autistic spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyspraxia or developmental coordination disorder, but many individuals with sensory processing differences will have no such diagnosis.
Aims:
The aim of this three day online course is to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of sensory processing disorder and the everyday difficulties that individuals experience at school, home, and other settings. The focus of this course is to give participants the knowledge level and necessary tools to identify and analyse sensory behaviours, and then to set up simple and appropriate sensory strategies in their setting.
Who Should Attend:
Teachers, teaching assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, school nurses, nursery nurses, psychologists, social workers, play therapists, social care staff, parents and other individuals seeking to gain a better understanding of sensory processing disorder.
Course delivery:
All training courses are delivered by Julia Dyer who holds advanced qualifications in sensory integration.
This sensory processing training course will be delivered using Zoom but recreating, as much as possible, all the positive aspects of an onsite course including learning together in small groups. One of Julia's core beliefs is that for genuine understanding and learning to occur you, as the learner, need to be actively engaged in the learning process.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this sensory processing training course, you will be able to:
• Define the terms ‘sensory integration’ and ‘sensory processing disorder’
• Explain the main functions of the sensory systems
• Recognise different types of behaviour arising from sensory processing differences
• Show how sensory processing differences impact on regulation, engagement, learning, and behaviour
• Design individualised strategies and programmes to assist the person at school, home, and other settings
