Course Overview

Families and the home environment play a key role in the ongoing development of children and young people.

Understanding how to work effectively and sensitively with families is an essential skill for educators.

This domain explores the importance of partnering with families to support mental health and wellbeing for children and young people. Educators will learn key principles and strategies for effective family partnerships and how to collaborate confidently with families and colleagues.

If you’re a school age care educator, modules in the primary school stream may be the most suitable for you.

Be You uses the term ‘family’ for people involved in a child or young person’s care outside a learning community. These may be parents, carers or extended family members. Family members don’t need to be biologically related or live with the child or young person.

A family may include 2 parents, single parents, blended and stepfamilies or foster carers. It may include grandparents, kinship carers or rainbow families where at least one parent or carer identifies as LGBTIQA+.
