Educators are among the most important and influential members of our society. Along with families and religious communities, our teachers, administrators, coaches, and counselors have a critical impact on the shaping of children and youth. In her years as a school counselor, she has been deeply impressed that as teachers work to meet the academic and educational needs of their students, they also feel increasing demands to meet students’ social, cultural, emotional, and behavioral needs as well. Her courses are designed to assist educators in addressing these challenging concerns by providing both helpful and relevant theoretical information as well as very practical, hands-on resources.

In the Address Bullying & Aggression for SEL course, you will enhance your awareness of and response to victims of violence and aggression in school. You’ll also expand your understanding of the victimizers and the factors that lead some students to respond to life challenges, conflicts, and difficulties with unwarranted aggression and bullying behavior.

What is the Bullying and Aggression Course?

The Bullying & Aggression course explores various prevention and intervention techniques within the classroom, campus, and larger school community.

The course is based on the principles of Social Emotional Learning. The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning defines Social and Emotional Learning as the “process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and share empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships and make responsible decisions.”

The Bullying & Aggression course meets the requirements of national standards related to the school environment, developmental instruction, classroom management, family support, and guidance and advisement to students.

What Will You Learn?

The course framework encompasses five core competencies:
