Adults around the world are working to bring outdoor playful learning back into the lives of children. Inspired by loose-parts-filled “adventure playgrounds,” early childhood professionals are working to let “kids be kids” again and climb trees, get messy, dig in the dirt, take risks, and lead their own play. Research is showing the benefits of environments that incorporate natural elements, loose parts, and age-appropriate risk taking. It’s not always easy to add nature to our environments or feel comfortable supporting risk taking! And how can we best manage loose parts and mess?! With humor, insight, and images, the speaker will inspire participants to boost their children’s play opportunities with practical ideas that can be incorporated into any yard, on any budget.
