Why have a willow hut in the schoolyard?
A willow hut is more than a fun addition to the playground. This green, living space invites children to discover, learn, and work together.
- Children can hide, gather together, or let their imaginations run wild.
- By helping to plant the willows themselves, children learn how willows grow and experience nature up close.
- Green schoolyards provide cooling, increase biodiversity, and create a pleasant play environment. A willow hut contributes directly to all of this.
What will your school receive?
- A preparatory meeting to properly coordinate the project.
- Materials for an arched willow hut measuring two metres in diameter (willow branches and, if necessary, soil).
- Planting the willows together with the class in November or December.
- In the new year: a guest lesson about native trees.
To participate, IVN Flevoland asks you to:
- Remove and dispose of any paving stones and, if necessary, white sand yourself.
- Ask the municipality for permission to modify the schoolyard.
- Work at a school in one of the following municipalities: Dronten, Lelystad, Noordoostpolder, Urk, or Zeewolde. For greening in Almere, we refer you to Stad & Natuur.
- Sign up here before 16 October.
