Why a greener schoolyard?

A green schoolyard is not only more fun, but also better for children’s development. Playing in nature stimulates their imagination and motor skills, and helps combat heat stress and water nuisance. Research from last year shows that 37% of children are dissatisfied with their schoolyard.

How does the campaign work?

Primary schools can register until 23 May at 5:00 p.m.. Children may draw their dream schoolyard, and three winning schools will receive help with materials, advice and inspiration from Jantje Beton and Praxis. The green schoolyards will be available to all children in the neighbourhood, including after school hours.

Own DIY team

Children, teachers and parents form a DIY team together. They get to work removing paving stones, planting greenery and truly making the schoolyard their own.

Previous winners

In 2024, three primary schools got to work on their green dream schoolyard: Op Weg Primary School (Haarle), 1st Montessori School (Alkmaar), and JFK Montessori School (The Hague). With the help of parents, teachers and, of course, the children themselves, their schoolyards were transformed into green play areas full of exciting experiences.
