Outdoor play is becoming less and less self-evident in children's daily lives. This is a worrying thought, because as a result we are missing opportunities in children's development. In this webinar, we will discuss why outdoor play is important. Is it only about motor development, or is there more to it? And how is it that children are playing outdoors less? We will explore the barriers that exist—whether it is bad weather or parents who consider the surroundings unsafe. We will then look for practical tips for professionals to address these barriers and discuss ways to encourage children, possibly through their parents, to play outdoors. There will be a panel of four experts, who will give examples of the importance of outdoor play and the barriers involved. They will also discuss solutions. The panel consists of Sanne de Vries (Lecturer in Healthy Lifestyle in a Stimulating Environment), Stefan van Veen (employee in sports and physical education in Den Bosch), Wendy van Rossum (representing Scouting Netherlands) and Marlies Bouman (Jantje Beton). The moderator is Johan Steenbergen (Mulier Institute).
