Why physical activity is so important
Pedagogical professionals can truly make a difference by creating an environment in which physical activity is natural, fun and challenging. This is important because:
- children are becoming less physically active, even though the first years of life are especially important for healthy growth and development;
- sufficient and varied physical activity helps young children develop self-confidence and discover how enjoyable physical activity is;
- children who enjoy being physically active at a young age are more likely to remain active later in life.
Movement Guide – Kids helps educators give physical activity a place in education
The Movement Guide – Kids is a practical and evidence-based guide for educators. It is intended to provide future pedagogical professionals with the knowledge and skills they need to encourage physical activity in childcare.
The guide offers you as an educator:
- a basis for developing an educational module on physical activity among young children, or for integrating physical activity into existing education;
- practical activities to apply physical activity directly in practice;
- room for customisation: each educational programme decides for itself how to shape education about physical activity.
