After September 2020, this transition period will come to an end. The Netherlands Nutrition Centre has prepared a brochure to make your school canteen ‘2020-proof’. There is also a page explaining the changes. The Katholieke Scholengemeenschap Etten-Leur (KSE) will be the first to receive a 2020-proof School Canteen Scale in January. Together with caterer Catermaat, they got started in time. The canteen sells delicious rolls spread with low-fat margarine and topped with extra raw vegetables. Fresh (fruit) salads are also available. And more than 80% of the vending machines are stocked with better choices, such as low-calorie soft drinks and water.
Transition period for the Guidelines for Healthier Canteens ends in September 2020
Since 2016, the new Guidelines for Healthier Canteens from the Netherlands Nutrition Centre have been in effect. These guidelines are in line with the Guidelines for the Wheel of Five. Until September 2020, a transition period applies to certain product groups, during which more products count as better choices. These are products in the following product groups: savoury snacks, sweet snacks, soup, drinks, filled rolls, bread toppings and meals.
