Healthy School Support Programme 2021–2022

Would you like attention to a healthy lifestyle at your school to become second nature? The Healthy School Support Programme can help you with this. For example, it enables you to focus on a theme such as Exercise and Sport or Physical Safety in a targeted and systematic way. Especially now, during the coronavirus pandemic!

What does the Healthy School Support Programme consist of?

If your application is approved, your school will receive:

  • an amount of €3,000 to be spent on:
    • compensation for the hours worked by a school employee appointed as Healthy School coordinator;
    • the use or purchase of recognised Healthy School activities;
    • the application for a theme certificate of the Healthy School quality mark;
    • following the training programme to become a Specialist in Active and Healthy Schools.
  • training for your school's Healthy School coordinator.
  • an average of 10 hours of advice and support from a Healthy School adviser from the Municipal Health Service.

What will you do?

In the 2021–2022 school year, you will get started with one or more of the following themes:

  • Nutrition
  • Exercise and sport
  • Well-being
  • Smoking, alcohol and drug prevention
  • Physical safety
  • Environment and nature

You will then bring structure to what you are already doing. The Healthy School approach helps with this. You choose a theme to be addressed in lessons, encourage healthy behaviour in the school environment, make agreements on how to identify health or lifestyle problems and record all agreements in the school policy. This gives a healthy lifestyle a place in the school's DNA.

Healthy Relationships & Sexuality Incentive Scheme (round 4)

Addressing relationships and sexuality in the classroom at an early stage contributes to the healthy and positive sexual development of your pupils and students. Discussing this topic is not always easy for everyone. The Healthy Relationships & Sexuality Incentive Scheme is intended to provide the professionals involved at the school with the best possible support in this area.

What does the Healthy Relationships & Sexuality Incentive Scheme consist of?

If your application is approved, your school will receive:

  • a financial contribution of €5,000 to be spent on:
    • compensation for the hours worked by a school employee appointed as Healthy School coordinator;
    • the use or purchase of recognised Healthy School activities;
    • the use of optional components such as team training or an offering for parents.
  • training for your school's Healthy School coordinator.
  • up to 20 hours of guidance from a Healthy School adviser from the Municipal Health Service.

Water Taps Grant (round 3)

Dutch tap water is among the best in the world. To encourage more schools to promote drinking tap water, the Water Taps Grant is available. Tap water as a healthy thirst quencher contributes to a healthier lifestyle among pupils and students. In terms of the environment, filling up with water is also a smart choice, as it reduces the number of disposable plastic bottles and cartons. Hundreds of school locations can receive a financial contribution towards purchasing a new water tap at school, so that pupils, students and staff can always get drinking water.

What does the Water Taps Grant consist of?

If your application is approved, your school will receive:

  • reimbursement of 75% of the costs of purchasing, installing and maintaining one or two new water tap(s)
    • up to a maximum of €2,000 (including VAT) for an outdoor water tap or two indoor water taps.
    • up to a maximum of €1,000 (including VAT) for an indoor water tap.
  • the option of leasing a water tap under a lease contract of five years or longer.
  • possible support from the JOGG coordinator or the School Canteen Brigade.

This grant is particularly interesting for schools that want to obtain the Nutrition theme certificate of the Healthy School quality mark. One condition for this theme certificate is that the school has a hygienic drinking-water facility outside the sanitary areas where pupils, students and staff can get water.

FAQ

Q: Our school location is already participating in an incentive scheme. May we also register for the new round?

A: Schools that participated in previous rounds may express their interest again. For the Healthy Relationships & Sexuality Incentive Scheme, this is only possible if the school location has started accounting for the previous round.

Q: May our school (location) register for more than one incentive scheme at the same time?

A: School locations may register for different incentive schemes. Please note that each scheme has its own rules and conditions. Healthy School aims to enable as many schools as possible to use a scheme. Read the conditions via Gezondeschool.nl/advies-en-ondersteuning.

Q: Does our school location need to have a separate contact person for each incentive scheme?

A: Each school has one account on Mijngezondeschool.nl, linked to the email address of the Healthy School contact person. For each school location and for certain schemes, it is possible to designate an additional contact person. Please note! Always check with your colleagues first whether there is already a school account for Mijngezondeschool.nl.

Q: Will our school location receive the budget from the Healthy Relationships & Sexuality Incentive Scheme or the Water Taps Grant immediately after approval?

A: No, after approval, schools must initially pay the costs themselves. They can then claim the costs incurred after submitting their financial report. Please note! Make sure that activities have not yet been purchased or carried out before the school has received confirmation that it may use the incentive scheme!

Q: Will our school (location) receive the budget made available through the Healthy School Support Programme immediately after approval?

A: After approval, 40% of the grant amount can be claimed by creating a first invoice. This claim can be submitted until 30 September 2021. Once the financial report has been approved, the school creates a second invoice to claim the remaining 60% of the grant amount. This claim can be submitted until 30 September 2022.

Extension of open schemes

Is your school currently using the Healthy School Support Programme 2020–2021, the Healthy Relationships & Sexuality Incentive Scheme (round 1 or 2), the Water Taps Grant (round 2) or Learning to Eat Well – outdoors! (round 2 or 3)? Due to the coronavirus crisis and school closures, it may be difficult to meet the conditions. We fully understand this, of course. That is why you are being given extra time to carry out the activities and account for the costs incurred! The deadline for submitting the financial report has been extended to 1 December 2021. This gives your school extra time to work on a healthy lifestyle and report on the activities.

Your school's contact person has already received an email about this. For advice and support in carrying out the activities, please contact the Healthy School adviser in your region.
