The Golden Weeks

The first weeks of the school year – the Golden Weeks – are crucial for creating a pleasant atmosphere in the group. Students get to know one another, the teacher and the rules. During this period, the norms and values of a group are established. The teacher plays an important role during this phase. How can you make a good start to the school year together with children? And how can you encourage positive group formation that you can enjoy throughout the year?

Group phases and group dynamics

You can read about the phases a group goes through and what your role is in our article Group dynamics in the classroom. It provides a brief explanation of the phases involved in forming a group. You will also learn how group processes work and how you can influence them as a teacher. In addition, you will learn how the phases influence one another and what happens when you do or do not intervene.

Anti-Bullying Week

Anti-Bullying Week helps schools at the beginning of the school year to work towards a friendly and safe group where bullying is not necessary. Every year, Stichting School & Veiligheid organises this week in September for schools in primary and secondary education, as well as vocational education. Join in! Visit www.weektegenpesten.nl for information and inspiration about the theme, activities, free teaching materials and how you can participate.
