Together with Stichting Stad & Natuur from Almere and Schooltuinen en Natuureducatie Amsterdam, nature and food education lessons have been developed for two primary schools – Daltonschool Neptunes from Amsterdam and De Verwondering from Almere – at the Floriade School Garden on the Floriade site. Every Tuesday, school garden staff from the municipality of Amsterdam guide the pupils from Amsterdam and Almere in the circular gardens of the Floriade School Garden. The children learn all about vegetables, flowers and herbs in their own garden, as well as about food processing, cycles and other nature-related topics.
The collaboration is part of ‘The Voice of Urban Nature’, the joint pavilion at Floriade by Amsterdam and Almere. Through the ‘Floriade School Garden’ lessons, Amsterdam is bringing more than 100 years of school gardening experience to Almere. The educational programme offered by Stichting Stad & Natuur focuses on the Expo’s four themes: Greening, Feeding, Healthying & Energising the City.
