Primary education

Anouk Huijs of BS Natuurlijk in Venlo was chosen as Teacher of the Year in the primary education category. The professional jury unanimously named her Teacher of the Year 2019 because of her strong vision of what education should be, namely learning for the future. Huijs is regarded as a driving force who is committed not only to her own class and school, but also acts as an ambassador for good education.

Special education

The Teacher of the Year in the special education category is Chantal Goedertier of Altra met de Bascule in Amsterdam. She is praised for her ability to help students settle in and feel safe. “She introduces students to a world they did not know before and seeks cooperation between youth care and mainstream education,” the jury said.

Secondary education

In secondary education, Lucelle Deneer of Christelijk College Groevenbeek in Ermelo emerged as the winner. The reason: “Giving up is not an option, and enjoying learning comes first,” the jury said. “Lucelle is a textbook example of a teacher who continues to develop throughout her life and considers diversity an important issue in education. She inspires, motivates and will undoubtedly put that talent to work next year as an ambassador.”

Vocational education

In the vocational education category, the title goes to Dirk Megens of ROC Nijmegen. The jury praises his enthusiasm and the way he seeks to connect with students. At the same time, he is able to maintain authority over the students. “Megens puts a great deal of energy into so-called ‘hybrid learning’, in which education becomes highly meaningful. He is also a teacher who uses modern channels, has experience with various media and strongly represents the profession,” the jury said.
