The Danish Ministry of Education recognized years ago that physical activity makes an important contribution to better education. In 2014, this resulted in a new curriculum in which, in addition to their physical education classes, pupils must engage in physical activity at school for at least 45 minutes a day. How do they do this? What benefits has this approach achieved? What conditions are needed for this? And what perspective does this offer for the Netherlands and for your organization?
Three levels
During the study trip, the dynamic school day will be addressed at three levels:
- We will examine the school facilities and see the activity-friendly and stimulating school environment, both indoors and outdoors.
- We will experience how the curriculum is implemented through brain breaks (learning through movement during lessons) and outdoor learning.
- We will hear how cooperation at the local level between schools, sports clubs and municipalities is used in Denmark to encourage physical activity.
During a well-balanced five-day trip, you will gain:
- Knowledge of good examples of the dynamic school day, in terms of facilities, curriculum and cooperation.
- Insight into the administrative, policy-related and substantive aspects of the dynamic school day and their applicability.
- Inspiration from Danish colleagues.
- The opportunity to expand your network within the Netherlands.
Learning objectives
For the Study Trip: Dynamic School Day to Denmark, the organizers have established the following learning objectives:
- Contribute to the further professionalization of the approach to increasing the amount and quality of physical activity at school.
- Learn about good examples of play and physical activity in education in Denmark, particularly with regard to the design of spaces and implementation of the curriculum.
- Contribute to understanding the policy-related and substantive aspects of applying this approach, based on Danish examples and experiences.
- Network, inspire and motivate one another.
In addition, the organizers advise you to determine your own learning objective in advance: which questions would you like to have answered? This will enable you to contribute even more effectively to the development of your own expertise and your own organization.
