Start of subsidy scheme for water taps at schools

From 19 September, primary schools can indicate whether they wish to make use of the subsidy scheme for the purchase and maintenance of a water tap on the school grounds. Around 450 schools can make use of the scheme, which consists of a contribution covering 75% of the costs, up to a maximum of €2,000 per school location. The scheme begins with a registration of interest, and allocation criteria will apply in the event of oversubscription.

In April, State Secretary Paul Blokhuis of WVS announced that the Dutch government is making 2 million euros available to subsidise water taps for schools in primary education. The water taps are intended for school grounds that can also be used by young people after school hours. With this measure, the government aims to take a concrete step towards reducing overweight among young people.

Food education allows pupils not only to learn, but especially to experience. That is why various organisations are joining forces to support schools with inspiring activities, teaching materials and practical tools. Examples include the Mayors’ Breakfast, a free visit to a farm, or shopping vouchers for cooking in the classroom.
