They will attend the King’s Breakfast, launch the event and visit a number of sports activities. After breakfast, the sporting part of the King’s Games will officially begin nationwide at 9:30 a.m. with a performance by Kinderen voor Kinderen featuring the song ‘Hand in hand’.

This edition centres on the theme ‘Hand in hand’. Eating a good breakfast together, exercising together and having fun together are not a given for every child. That is why, during this year’s King’s Games, children are encouraged to turn it into one big sporting and healthy celebration together and to seek out unexpected, valuable connections.

National opening at Vlinderslag Children’s Centre

Vlinderslag Children’s Centre is a colourful community school in the heart of the Kruiskamp neighbourhood in Amersfoort, the National Education City for 2020/21. Vlinderslag is a wonderful reflection of the diversity of the neighbourhood and an excellent place to practise for the society of the future.

A healthy future. Vlinderslag encourages an active lifestyle among all children. High-quality physical education taught by a specialist teacher, along with a broad and varied range of sports and physical activities before, between and after school, are essential building blocks of Vlinderslag as a Healthy School. With a little help, encouragement and guidance, pupils discover for themselves, hand in hand, where their sporting interests lie.

Registration for the King’s Games open until 29 February

Schools have until 29 February to register for the sporting Orange celebration. In 2019, more than 1.2 million children from 6,000 primary schools took part. These included schools in primary education in the Netherlands, the Caribbean part of the Kingdom and Dutch schools abroad.

The King’s Games were first organised in 2013 as part of the inauguration of King Willem-Alexander. The day consists of sporting activities preceded by a festive King’s Breakfast. Schools decide for themselves how the King’s Games are organised. National coordination of the King’s Games is handled by the Krajicek Foundation. Together with the Johan Cruyff Foundation, they are the initiators of the sporting day. In that capacity, Richard Krajicek and Ronald Koeman will also be present.
