Special Heroes Netherlands Foundation is committed to the social, mental and physical development of people with disabilities by encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle and creating the largest and broadest possible range of opportunities in the areas of sport & exercise, art & culture, work & participation, nature & technology, relaxation & relationships, and food & drink.

Healthy Heroes programme

Living in a healthy way is not always easy. Many factors influence the development of healthy and unhealthy behaviour. More and more children are dealing with overweight at a young age. In the Netherlands, around 15% of children are overweight. This is highly concerning, as being overweight affects health later in life.
Education and experience with healthy habits contribute to the development of healthier behaviour. The Healthy Heroes programme was developed for this purpose; within this programme, basic lessons on the theme of food and drink are provided as a starting point.

Providing interactive lessons on nutrition and lifestyle has shown that children develop more knowledge in this area and are more willing and able to think about healthier choices. They are more aware of the effect of healthy and unhealthy behaviour on their physical and mental health. The younger children are introduced to this topic, the better.
