Social safety ensures that young people can develop in a balanced way and feel connected to society. This makes them less susceptible to polarization and radicalization. Municipalities and schools can work together to promote social safety and restore it where necessary. They can also work together on issues relating to parenting, development, support and safety. Too often, this cooperation is still too cumbersome. And that is unfortunate, because social safety is everyone’s responsibility.

‘Social safety is everyone’s responsibility’ focuses on strengthening cooperation between schools and municipalities, in both policy and practice. The publication describes ways to build bridges between the different areas of young people’s lives, making smart use of the knowledge and expertise of local and regional partners.

The publication contains lessons learned, a framework for action and discussion cards that can help with cooperation on safety issues involving schools, partners from the youth sector and municipalities. ‘Social safety is everyone’s responsibility’ was written by the Netherlands Youth Institute at the request of Platform JEP and in consultation with the School and Safety Foundation.
