The IVN Ditch Research lesson package is tailored to life in and around the ditch as you can expect it in June. This lesson package contains both experience-oriented and investigative activities, with the students carrying out the activities themselves, experiencing things for themselves and conducting their own research at the heart of the programme.

The activities can be carried out both inside and outside the classroom, they complement one another and can also be provided as separate activities. This way, you can put together a programme of activities that suits the students and the time available.

Core objectives
The lesson package corresponds to the following core objectives of primary education:

  • 33. Students learn to measure and calculate using units and measurements, such as time, money, length, circumference, area, volume, weight, speed and temperature.
  • 39. Students learn to handle the environment responsibly.
  • 40. Students learn to distinguish and name common plants and animals in their own surroundings and learn how they function in their environment.
  • 42. Students learn to conduct research into materials and physical phenomena, such as light, sound, electricity, force, magnetism and temperature.
  • 48. Students learn about the measures taken or formerly taken in the Netherlands to make habitation possible in areas threatened by water.
