Why?
During this special week, the School Garden Alliance and Jong Leren Eten, together with teachers and supporters, want to highlight the importance of school gardening. Together, we want to show schools, school boards and municipalities, and let them experience, how school gardening contributes to children's development, learning, cooperation and learning to eat healthily. In the school garden, children learn with their heads, hearts and hands.
During the week, the Golden Carrot will also be awarded to a municipality that supports school gardening and is an example to others. Read how you can nominate your municipality. In 2022, the Golden Carrot went to Arnhem and Teylingen.
Join us!
During School Garden Week, teachers and pupils are introduced to school gardening in an accessible way. School garden supporters – vegetable garden coaches and local NME centres – can help with this. During the week, we will sow a record number of seeds together with as many schools as possible and plant out the sown seeds! There will also be many activities in and around the school garden. Will you join us? Sign up below, as a school or supporter.
After signing up, you will receive:
- a free lesson plan for the sowing activity, and you can take part in the ‘Sowing Together’ prize draw,
- a list of activities for inspiration,
- a free communications toolkit to put your school garden/sowing activities in the spotlight,
- a special (temporary) newsletter,
- access to the wonderful film: ‘The School Garden, a Year Round with Your Hands in the Soil’.
Participation is free and you can sign up until 9 May.
