At the opening, Alderman Bert Velthuis emphasised the importance of initiatives such as the Peuter4daagse. “I think it is important that people start exercising at as young an age as possible. Children can also sit on the sofa, but it is better for them to go outside and exercise.” Kerstin Vogel, regional director of KION Childcare, agreed: “As a childcare organisation, we want to give children a good, pleasant and healthy start in life, and exercise is very important in this. That is why we want to encourage it. Going outside together with others and, above all, having lots of fun exercising.”

All information about the event can be found on the Peuter4daagse website. During childcare hours at the childcare centre or playgroup, childcare professionals walk for at least fifteen minutes every day along a route they have mapped out themselves. Afterwards, the toddlers receive a cheerful official medal featuring a hedgehog or a fawn as a reward.
Of course, it is fun to turn the final walking day into an extra celebration. You can organise this at your own location. Or perhaps it would be enjoyable to work together with local organisations and/or sports providers. The municipality may also be able to play a role, for example by having the local alderman join the walk. In consultation with your local JOGG coordinator, you can discuss what is possible. You can request the contact details of your JOGG coordinator via the JOGG website.
