Healthy School encourages schools to start or continue working independently on healthy living, learning and development. We do this through the school-wide and structural Healthy School approach. This ensures that attention to the health and well-being of pupils and students is reflected throughout the school: in lessons, the physical, social and digital environment, monitoring and school policy. Working with this approach increases the likelihood of lasting effects: pupils and students who feel good, make healthy choices and grow into adults for whom a healthy lifestyle is second nature.

Why Healthy School?

  • Effective: The proven effective Healthy School approach makes it easy to work on health and well-being across the school and in a structured way. By working according to the Healthy School approach, you increase the likelihood of lasting impact.
  • Expert support: the Healthy School advisers from the municipal public health service (GGD) in your region will be happy to advise and support you in working with the Healthy School approach.
  • Useful tools: Use our online environment Your Healthy School for e-learning courses, training sessions and the digital tool 'Get started!'. Here, you can keep track of the steps you have taken to promote health and well-being at your school, and gain knowledge, practical tips and guidance.

Incentive

With the Healthy School approach, education professionals work across the school and in a structured way on a theme of their choice, such as Well-being, Media Literacy, Exercise and Sport, Sleep, or Relationships and Sexuality. For schools that need additional guidance or financial support, there is the Healthy School Incentive Scheme 2025–2026. Whether your school has not worked with the Healthy School approach before or is already experienced: there is a suitable offering for every school. More information, such as the conditions and a Q&A, can be found on the Healthy School Incentive Scheme 2025–2026 website.
