The pupils from De Zonnewende schools (Osseveld and Woudhuis locations), De Regenboog and De Bundel in Apeldoorn created a course in their own schoolyards, which the pupils were then allowed to try out at one another’s schools. This run in Apeldoorn was co-organised through the enthusiastic efforts of the Osseveld-Woudhuis Neighbourhood Council, Denktank Breed, Accres, Stimenz, Jongeren Op Gezond Gewicht and, of course, the boundless energy of the pupils and their teachers.
The Obstacle Run takes place at schools and playgrounds throughout the country and is fully funded by Jantje Beton. The first Obstacle Runs took place at a school and in a playground in 2016 and 2017. In 2018, Jantje Beton treated 150 schools and playgrounds to an Obstacle Run package.
The course for the Obstacle Run is devised and built together with children. Children can overcome the obstacles in the course at their own pace, learning to push their boundaries, overcome fears, work together and experience success. Beforehand, the children focus on training for the run through the themes ‘Getting stronger’, ‘Getting smarter’ and ‘Working together’. This contributes to the children’s self-confidence and encourages them to take part in the Obstacle Run.
