Prevention is better than cure. Yet there is sometimes a lack of overview of the preventive youth services provided by municipalities, appropriate education partnerships and schools. The services that are known mainly consist of separate interventions. The ‘Prevention Matrix Youth: connecting education–youth support’ developed by the Netherlands Youth Institute is a tool for gaining insight, overview and coherence in preventive youth services.
Promoting normal life
The prevention matrix maps out which factors promote the normal lives of children and young people and helps strengthen protective measures and address obstructive or risky factors quickly and effectively. It provides a clear overview of what is already being done and what is still needed based on the school population. The main focus is on how education and municipal services can reinforce each other.

The NJi is looking for a number of municipalities, collaborative partnerships and schools that would like to work with the NJi on the prevention matrix. They will receive help creating an overview of preventive youth services in the municipality and facilitating discussions about this between education, the municipality and other partners.
